Louisville, KY – Winter weather continues to affect Kentucky this weekend as another quick-moving clipper brings light accumulating snow Saturday evening followed by the coldest temperatures of the season, according to the National Weather Service (NWS) Louisville.

Light to moderate snow that impacted northern Kentucky early Friday is expected to taper off by mid-morning. According to the NWS, most areas in the Winter Storm Warning may total 3 to 5 inches, while surrounding Winter Weather Advisory zones could see 1 to 4 inches before the system exits.

A second round of snow arrives Saturday evening, mainly along and north of the I-64 corridor. Forecast totals range from 1 to 3 inches, with locally higher amounts possible near the Ohio River and toward Cincinnati. The Winter Storm Severity Index indicates minor impacts, meaning travel inconveniences—slick roads, reduced visibility, and slowdowns—are possible into early Sunday.

Following Saturday’s clipper, bitter cold settles in quickly. Lows Sunday morning will drop into the single digits to low teens, and when combined with breezy winds, wind chills will fall below zero across much of central and northern Kentucky. Some locations—including Louisville, Lexington, Madison, and Covington—may experience wind chills between -3°F and -8°F. The NWS reports confidence in this cold pattern as “high.”

High temperatures Sunday will remain stuck in the teens, potentially challenging long-standing cold records. Monday begins even colder, with lows again near zero and wind chills hovering around zero or slightly below.

Residents are urged to use caution while driving, bundle up during outdoor activities, and monitor for any refreezing on roads and sidewalks through Monday morning.
