Louisville, KY – A sharp 20-degree temperature drop will hit the metro within 24 hours, bringing a rain-to-snow mix north of Interstate 64 by Sunday morning and slick bridges before daybreak.

According to the National Weather Service in Louisville, Saturday highs surge into the mid-60s to near 70 degrees under partly sunny skies. Clouds thicken late Saturday evening as cooler air slides into central Kentucky, setting up scattered showers overnight into Sunday.

By early Sunday, communities north of I-64, including Jefferson, Oldham and Trimble counties, could see rain briefly mix with wet snow as colder air filters south. Surface temperatures in the 30s across southern Indiana increase the chance for minor slushy patches on elevated roadways, especially along I-71 and I-265 before 9 a.m.

Farther south toward Elizabethtown and the Tennessee border, highs will remain milder in the upper 50s Sunday, limiting wintry impacts. However, everyone transitions to chilly rain by Sunday afternoon as the cold front stalls over central Kentucky.

Monday stays damp with highs only reaching the mid-40s to lower 50s. Periods of light rain could total around a quarter inch, creating ponding along I-65 and the Gene Snyder Freeway during heavier bursts.

Drivers should monitor changing conditions late Saturday night into early Sunday, especially north of the Ohio River. Slow down on bridges and overpasses where temperatures fall fastest.

A gradual moderation begins midweek, but additional updates are possible if colder air deepens or precipitation coverage expands.
