Louisville, KY – Showers and thunderstorms will begin moving into the region late this morning, with impacts building through the afternoon as rain and lightning threaten to slow travel on major corridors.
According to the National Weather Service in Louisville, a broken line of showers and storms will push in from the northwest starting around 11 a.m. to 1 p.m., weakening as it moves southeast. The greatest chance for stronger wind gusts will be along and north of I-64 and east of I-65, including Louisville, Frankfort, and Lexington.
While the overall severe risk remains low, storms may still produce wind gusts near 30 to 40 mph along with brief heavy rainfall. Areas south and west, including Bowling Green and Elizabethtown, will mainly see periods of rain with occasional lightning.
Drivers along I-64, I-65, and I-71 should expect reduced visibility and slick pavement during heavier downpours, especially between 2 p.m. and 7 p.m. Localized ponding on roads is possible in low-lying areas.
Rain will linger into the evening, especially across eastern Kentucky, before tapering overnight. Keep devices charged and monitor alerts, as updates may shift storm timing or coverage through the day.
