Louisville, KY – Wet weather will dominate Kentucky’s post-Christmas forecast, impacting travel and outdoor plans across the state. Light rain is expected to begin today, intensifying into widespread showers and storms by Friday and Saturday.

According to the National Weather Service (NWS) in Louisville, light rain will mainly impact areas north of I-64 today, with temperatures ranging from the upper 40s to mid-50s. Thursday will remain dry but overcast, with highs nearing 57 degrees. By Friday, a strong system will bring consistent rain and possible thunderstorms, pushing temperatures into the low 60s across southern Kentucky.

Travelers along the Bluegrass Parkway and I-64 should prepare for reduced visibility and slick roadways on Friday and Saturday. NWS warns that heavy rainfall could lead to ponding on roads, increasing the risk of accidents. Weekend outdoor plans are advised to be rescheduled, as rain chances reach 90% both days, with total rainfall potentially exceeding an inch in some areas.

Saturday’s forecast calls for highs of 63 degrees but comes with a risk of thunderstorms, particularly in the evening. Showers are likely to linger into Sunday, although precipitation levels will taper off, making travel safer by late weekend.

Residents are encouraged to monitor updated forecasts and consider delaying travel during peak rain periods.
