Lake Charles, LA – A winter storm is forecast to deliver significant snowfall and ice accumulations to Louisiana and southeast Texas beginning late Monday night.

According to the National Weather Service, the storm is expected to drop 5 to 7 inches of snow north of Interstate 10, with 3 to 5 inches likely closer to the coast. Ice accumulations may accompany the snow, creating hazardous conditions across the region. The storm is expected to persist through Tuesday evening.

The Weather Service advises residents to prepare for dangerous travel conditions, especially during Tuesday’s commutes. Roads, bridges, and overpasses are likely to become slick and treacherous. Strong winds combined with snow and ice could lead to downed power lines and sporadic outages.

Officials urge residents to remain indoors until conditions improve. If outdoor activity is unavoidable, wearing multiple layers and covering exposed skin can help prevent frostbite and hypothermia. Motorists should delay travel if possible and exercise extreme caution when driving.

This winter storm marks a rare weather event for the region, underscoring the importance of staying updated on forecasts and heeding safety advice.
