Gretna, Louisiana – Drivers across the New Orleans metro should prepare for wet roads and possible lightning Tuesday morning as scattered thunderstorms move through the region.
According to the National Weather Service in New Orleans/Baton Rouge, showers will begin after 5 a.m., with thunderstorms likely developing after 10 a.m. Tuesday. Some storms may produce heavy rainfall and gusty winds, particularly in areas south and west of downtown New Orleans. Rain chances taper off by 7 p.m., though skies will remain mostly cloudy overnight with lows around 68°F.
Gretna, Metairie, and the West Bank could see between a half inch and three-quarters of an inch of rain by the end of the day. Southeast winds around 5 mph will accompany the system, though stronger gusts may occur in storm cells. Commuters are advised to allow extra travel time and avoid water-covered roads.
Wednesday brings another round of storms, with a 40% chance of afternoon showers and a high of 82°F. Rain is expected to ease heading into the weekend, with sunny skies and highs in the mid-80s by Friday.
Additional advisories may be issued if storm intensity increases Tuesday morning.
