Duluth, Minnesota – Drivers along the North Shore and in Duluth should expect dense fog and scattered showers through Tuesday morning, with visibility dropping below a quarter mile in some areas before 9 a.m.
According to the National Weather Service in Duluth, there is a 30–50% chance of thunderstorms developing early Tuesday, particularly around Lake Superior, where warm moisture meets cooler lake air. Fog is expected to develop after midnight and persist into the morning, especially near low-lying and coastal areas.
Conditions remain unsettled through Thursday, with chances for light rain and gusty winds of up to 25 mph in Duluth, Two Harbors, and Grand Marais. Winds will shift from the east to northeast midweek, pushing cooler air inland and prolonging damp conditions. Areas along U.S. Highway 61 may be especially slick due to fog and early showers.
Residents are urged to reduce speed during commutes, use low beams in fog, and allow extra travel time. Spotter activation is not anticipated.
More showers are likely late Sunday into Monday, and the NWS says additional alerts may be issued as the weekend storm threat grows.
