Shreveport, LA – Residents across northern Louisiana should prepare for severe storms expected to sweep through the region later today. The National Weather Service (NWS) warns of damaging winds, heavy rain, and a potential for tornadoes beginning this afternoon and extending into the overnight hours.

According to the NWS Shreveport office, storms are likely to intensify after 3 p.m., with widespread showers expected. There is a Level 1 marginal risk for severe weather across the area, including damaging wind gusts of up to 25 mph. Tornado activity cannot be ruled out, particularly along the I-20 corridor, increasing the need for preparedness.

Tonight’s forecast calls for thunderstorms likely before 9 p.m., followed by gradual clearing and lows near 54 degrees. Rainfall totals could range from one-quarter to one-half inch.

Looking ahead, Tuesday offers a reprieve, with sunny skies and a high of 75 degrees. The calm conditions will extend through Friday, with daily highs in the mid-60s to low-70s, and overnight lows dropping into the low 40s.

Officials urge residents to have multiple ways to receive severe weather alerts, such as NOAA radios or weather apps, and to identify safe shelter locations. Those traveling along I-20 or near Cross Lake should be particularly cautious during storm activity.
