Lake Charles, LA – A widespread Flood Watch remains in effect through Saturday afternoon for much of southwest Louisiana, as steady rainfall increases the risk of localized and urban flooding.
According to the National Weather Service in Lake Charles, parishes including Calcasieu, Lafayette, Vermilion, St. Landry, Rapides, and Cameron are among the areas most at risk. The watch also extends into parts of southeast Texas, covering Jefferson, Orange, Jasper, and Tyler counties.
Widespread rainfall of 1 to 3 inches is expected across the region, with localized pockets seeing up to 5 inches. The National Weather Service warned that excessive runoff may lead to flooding in low-lying areas, rivers, creeks, and streets, particularly where storm drains and ditches become clogged.
Residents in flood-prone areas should remain alert and prepare to act if conditions worsen. Authorities recommend clearing drains of debris, avoiding flooded roadways, and monitoring updates from emergency management offices.
This rain event follows a period of relatively dry conditions, heightening the risk of rapid runoff in urban zones. The Flood Watch is set to expire at 1 p.m. Saturday but may be extended if rainfall continues beyond forecasted levels.
