New Orleans, Louisiana – Drivers crossing elevated bridges and open stretches of Interstate 10 this morning face wind gusts up to 40 mph that could push high-profile vehicles off balance through 3 p.m. Sunday.

According to the National Weather Service in New Orleans, a Wind Advisory remains in effect for much of southeast Louisiana, including Orleans, Jefferson, Plaquemines, Terrebonne and Lafourche parishes. Sustained north winds between 15 and 25 mph will continue, with peak gusts reaching 35 to 40 mph through midafternoon.

The strongest gusts are expected along coastal communities such as Grand Isle, Venice, Cocodrie and Shell Beach, where open water allows winds to accelerate. In the New Orleans metro area, including Metairie, Kenner and Gretna, loose outdoor items may be blown into roadways. Tree limbs could snap, and isolated power outages are possible, especially in areas with saturated soil.

Drivers of box trucks, RVs and semis should use extra caution on the Lake Pontchartrain Causeway and elevated roadways. Residents are urged to secure patio furniture, trash bins and decorations before winds peak late this morning.

Conditions are expected to gradually ease after 3 p.m., but breezy weather may linger into the evening. Additional advisories could be issued if gusts remain elevated along the coast.
