Chicago, Illinois – Drivers in Northwest Indiana could encounter slick bridges and rapidly changing visibility before the Monday morning commute as lake-effect snow continues to target Porter County.
According to the National Weather Service in Chicago, a Winter Weather Advisory remains in effect for Porter County until noon CST Monday. Lake-effect snow is expected to produce 2 to 5 inches of accumulation, with locally higher totals mainly east of State Road 49 and north of U.S. Route 30. Some blowing and drifting snow may develop Sunday night into Monday as winds increase.
A brief lull in snowfall may occur Sunday morning, but another round of lake-effect bands is expected to organize Sunday afternoon and persist through Monday morning. Communities including Portage, Valparaiso and Chesterton could see bursts of heavier snow that quickly coat roadways.
