Monroe, La. – Strong storms are tracking across northeast Louisiana this afternoon, prompting a Severe Thunderstorm Watch until 8 p.m. Saturday for seven parishes, including East Carroll, Tensas, and Madison. Damaging wind gusts, lightning, and hail are all possible as the system moves through the region.
According to the National Weather Service Storm Prediction Center, the watch was issued at 1:45 p.m. CDT and includes East Carroll, Franklin, Madison, Morehouse, Richland, Tensas, and West Carroll parishes. Forecasters warn that scattered storms could become severe, especially during the late afternoon and early evening hours.
Residents along U.S. Highways 65 and 425 should stay alert for fast-moving storms that may down trees or power lines. Outdoor activities and travel could be disrupted, especially in rural areas with limited shelter. Officials recommend securing loose items and staying indoors as storms approach.
This marks one of the more widespread thunderstorm watches issued for northeast Louisiana this month, following a week of mostly dry conditions. Power outages are possible in harder-hit areas.
The thunderstorm watch remains in effect until 8 p.m., with further advisories or warnings possible if storm intensity increases. Stay tuned to local alerts and weather radio for updates.
