Baton Rouge, La. – Dangerous heat will blanket Southeast Louisiana Sunday as heat index values climb toward 110°, prompting a heat advisory for over 20 parishes, including Baton Rouge, New Orleans, and surrounding areas.

According to the National Weather Service in New Orleans, the advisory is in effect from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. CDT Sunday and includes the entire metro corridor from Iberville to St. Tammany and south to Jefferson and Plaquemines Parishes. High humidity combined with temperatures in the upper 90s will create extreme heat conditions.

Residents in areas like Metairie, Laplace, Covington, and Hammond are urged to limit outdoor activity, drink water frequently, and check on vulnerable neighbors. Prolonged exposure can lead to heat exhaustion or heat stroke, especially for outdoor workers or those without access to air conditioning.

Cooling centers may open across the region as power grids strain under demand. Road crews and emergency responders in affected parishes are also on alert for heat-related calls.

The heat advisory expires at 7 p.m. Sunday, but officials warn that similar conditions may return early next week. Stay updated through local emergency channels.
