Portland, Oregon – Portlanders could see thermometers hit 98°F by Sunday afternoon as a dangerous heat wave grips the region through Monday night.

According to the National Weather Service in Portland, a Heat Advisory remains in effect from 10 a.m. Sunday until 10 p.m. Monday for much of northwestern Oregon and southwestern Washington. Affected areas include the Portland-Vancouver metro, Willamette Valley, Columbia River Gorge, and Cascade foothill communities from Marion County to McKenzie Bridge.

Overnight lows in the low-to-mid 60s, especially near the Gorge and metro areas, will provide little relief. The NWS warns of moderate to major heat risk, particularly for those without reliable cooling or hydration. Vulnerable groups such as the elderly, outdoor workers, and unsheltered individuals are at highest risk for heat-related illness.

In Salem, Eugene, and Hillsboro, Sunday highs could top 95°F. Urban neighborhoods may see heat build rapidly due to limited overnight cooling. Emergency officials recommend staying indoors during peak heat, using fans or AC, and checking on neighbors—especially those without cooling access.

Temperatures are expected to ease slightly Tuesday, but additional heat alerts may be issued. Residents should monitor NWS updates and avoid outdoor activity during peak afternoon hours.
