Lake Charles, LA – A dense fog advisory remains in effect until 9 a.m. today, creating hazardous driving conditions across southwest Louisiana, including Interstate 10. Visibility has dropped to as low as 1/4 mile in some areas, prompting officials to urge drivers to slow down, use low-beam headlights, and allow extra distance between vehicles.
According to the National Weather Service, the fog is expected to clear by mid-morning, giving way to sunny skies and a high near 73°F. Winds will be calm but will shift southeast later today at 10 to 15 mph, with gusts up to 20 mph.
The quiet weather pattern will continue through midweek. On New Year’s Eve, residents can expect sunny skies with a high of 68°F and evening lows around 42°F, making it ideal for outdoor celebrations. Clear skies and mild conditions will persist through New Year’s Day on Wednesday.
Rain chances will return Thursday night, with scattered showers possible heading into the weekend. Drivers are reminded to remain vigilant this morning until the fog lifts.
