Annandale, VA – A rollercoaster of weather conditions is expected in Virginia this week, with mild temperatures giving way to rain and freezing nights starting Tuesday. Rain showers and gusty winds will usher in a cold front ahead of New Year’s Day, followed by a noticeable drop in temperatures.

According to the National Weather Service (NWS), Annandale will experience rain likely after 4 p.m. Tuesday, with temperatures peaking at 58 degrees before plummeting overnight to 42. Winds could reach up to 20 mph, making outdoor celebrations potentially chilly and wet. Residents should plan for slick roadways, especially along major routes like the I-495 Beltway.

New Year’s Day brings drier conditions but cooler weather, with highs near 50 degrees and breezy winds that could add a winter bite. By Wednesday night, lows will sink to near-freezing, hitting around 31 degrees. Sunny skies return Thursday, but daily highs will hover between 41 and 45 degrees for the remainder of the week. Nightly lows are forecast to dip as low as 26 degrees by Friday.

Local officials recommend preparing for varying weather by dressing in layers, securing outdoor decorations, and driving cautiously during periods of rain. Fireworks enthusiasts planning outdoor celebrations should monitor weather updates closely and be mindful of windy conditions.

Stay tuned for updates as weather conditions evolve throughout the week.
