Los Angeles, CA – A significant fire erupted at a vacant industrial building in downtown Los Angeles on Tuesday afternoon, resulting in multiple explosions that shook the surrounding area. Firefighters arriving at the scene found intense flames shooting through the roof at 1200 East Industrial Street, where a 5,800-square-foot structure was fully engulfed.

According to the Los Angeles Fire Department, the alarm was raised at 1:50 p.m., prompting the rapid deployment of 110 firefighters under the command of Assistant Chief Douglas Lewis. Despite the explosive hazards, the firefighting team swiftly contained the blaze, preventing it from spreading to an adjacent 48-unit supportive housing facility.

The explosions, reportedly caused by ruptured gas cylinders stored inside the building, were heard across downtown. The LAFD’s RS3 Robotic Firefighting Vehicle played a key role in extinguishing the fire, which was brought under control in just 61 minutes without injury. The department remains on site, conducting salvage operations and investigating the fire’s cause.

This industrial building, now severely damaged, poses no further threat to the community. However, the LAFD has kept the investigation open to determine the source of the fire.
