Los Angeles, California – Mountain roads could become impassable within hours as wind gusts up to 70 mph whip heavy snow across the San Gabriel and Ventura County mountains through Thursday morning.
According to the National Weather Service in Los Angeles/Oxnard, a Winter Storm Warning remains in effect until 9 a.m. PST Thursday for the Eastern San Gabriel Mountains and Northern Ventura County Mountains. Snow totals may reach 4 inches between 3,500 and 4,500 feet, 6 to 12 inches from 4,500 to 6,000 feet, and 1 to 2 feet above 6,000 feet. Damaging winds up to 70 mph are expected through Monday afternoon, easing to gusts near 50 mph into Thursday.
High elevations along the Angeles Crest Highway, Mount Baldy, Wrightwood, Mount Wilson, Mount Pinos and Lockwood Valley face the most severe conditions. Blowing and drifting snow could drop visibility below one-quarter mile, even during a temporary lull in snowfall Tuesday into Tuesday night.
Falling trees and downed power lines remain a concern, particularly for high-profile vehicles traveling exposed ridgelines. Officials urge residents and visitors to delay travel, secure loose outdoor items and prepare for possible outages.
Heavy snow returns by Wednesday, extending hazardous travel through early Thursday. Additional updates are likely as conditions evolve.
