Lombard, IL – A Lombard man faces serious charges after allegedly yelling racial slurs and brandishing a BB gun at a local park. Carl Walsh, 35, was arrested after the incident near Lombard Lagoon on September 1, 2024. Walsh has been charged with a felony hate crime and misdemeanor disorderly conduct.
According to the DuPage County State’s Attorney Robert Berlin, the court denied Walsh pre-trial release due to the severity of the charges. Lombard Police responded swiftly, locating Walsh near the park. He allegedly blew a whistle, shouted racial slurs, and gave a Nazi salute before brandishing the BB gun. Officers found the weapon on him when they arrested him at his home.
Berlin emphasized that DuPage County does not tolerate hate crimes. Walsh’s next court appearance is scheduled for September 30, 2024.
