Lombard, IL – A Saturday evening house fire on West Harrison Street in Lombard prompted a swift response from local firefighters, saving an elderly resident and several pets.

Fire crews were dispatched at 6:09 p.m. after neighbors reported flames visible on the home’s exterior. Lombard police arrived first, safely evacuating the resident and pets.

According to the Lombard Fire Department, the first engine arrived at 6:13 p.m. and found the chimney ablaze. Firefighters deployed hoses to control exterior flames and prevent further spread. Interior teams confirmed the home was clear while addressing the fire’s extension into the house.

The blaze caused a power line to fall in the yard, creating additional hazards. ComEd crews assisted on-site to secure the live wire. Firefighters extinguished remaining hot spots by 6:20 p.m., containing damage to the chimney.

Officials estimate the fire caused $75,000 in damages, though the home remains habitable. No injuries were reported. One neighbor was evaluated by paramedics but declined treatment.

The fire’s cause is under investigation. Lombard firefighters received support from neighboring departments, ensuring a rapid and coordinated response.
