JOLIET, IL – A late-night altercation at a Joliet apartment complex turned violent Friday, resulting in three men sustaining injuries, with one of them suffering a gunshot wound to the head.
According to Joliet Police it happened just before midnight in the 200 block of Herkimer Street.
Officers found two adult males at the scene with apparent head injuries and immediately provided medical aid. Further investigation revealed that one of the men had been shot in the head, while another, identified as Juan Cisneros-Rodriguez, 37, had sustained severe head injuries but was not shot. A 19-year-old, later identified as the son of the shooting victim, had undisclosed injuries in the incident.
Following an investigation, officers learned an argument between Cisneros-Rodriguez and the shooting victim had escalated in the rear of the apartment building. Cisneros-Rodriguez allegedly retrieved a handgun from his own apartment and allegedly shot the victim. The victim’s son then intervened, disarming Cisneros-Rodriguez before officers arrived.
Both Cisneros-Rodriguez and the shooting victim were transported to local hospitals for treatment. Cisneros-Rodriguez was later airlifted to the University of Chicago hospital and remains under police guard.
