Criminals use Vehicle to ram Gun Store in Robbery attempt in Crete

CRETE – Extensive security measures prevented thieves from obtaining guns or ammunition at a gun supply store Tuesday morning.

According to Crete Police, the robbery attempt took place at 2:30 a.m. when police were called to Asgard Arms at at 548 First St.  Officers arriving at the scene noticed a car had run into the store front of the business.  

A detailed look at security footage showed the vehicle had been purposely rammed into the storefront of a brick wall to access the building.

At approximately 2:30 a.m. this morning, Crete Police Officers were dispatched to an alarm at Asgard Arms located at 548 First St. Crete, IL 60417. Upon arrival officers observed a vehicle crashed into the side of the building.  Video surveillance was obtained of the incident. Upon further investigation it was revealed that (5) suspects had purposely used the vehicle to “ram” the wall of the building to gain access.  

The video showed five suspects entering the business in mask and gloves and running. Off with various items.  

“Thankfully, the owners of the store have taken protective and proactive action to secure their business, including vaults, safes, and other security measures.  At this time, it appears that no firearms or ammunition were taken during this crime.” Crete Police Chief Scott S. Pieritz said in a press release Tuesday.

Owners are taking further inventory to determine exactly what was take. From the store.  

The vehicle used in the crime was shown as stolen from Chicago and towed for further forensic testing.
