MOROCCO, IN – An adrenaline-fueled day at the US 41 Motorplex turned into a heart-wrenching tragedy when a 45-year-old man from Mackinaw, Illinois, lost his life in a fatal crash Friday.
The incident occurred during a solo timed run on the track, sending shockwaves through the racing community.
Newton County Deputies rushed to the scene at 5:29 PM following distressing reports of a severe injury crash involving a 1996 Mustang. Investigators revealed the Mustang suddenly lost control after crossing the finish line, colliding with the guardrail before becoming airborne and crashing into a nearby wooded area.
The vehicle tragically caught fire, and the driver, the sole occupant, succumbed to the impact.
This heartrending event prompted a rapid response from several agencies, including Newton County 9-1-1 Communications, Newton County EMS, Morocco Fire Department, Indiana State Police, and Newton County Coroner.
Sheriff Cothran from the Newton County Sheriff’s Office has called for anyone with information about the crash to come forward and aid the ongoing investigation.
