WINFIELD, IN – A 19-year-old from Demotte, Indiana tragically lost their life in a head-on collision in Winfield.
According to Lake County Sheriff’s Police, the accident occurred on July 4th, 2023, at 4:36 p.m. Witnesses reported that a Subaru SUV was allegedly tailgating a Jeep attempted to pass it in the 7000 block of East 117th Avenue, resulting in the Subaru crossing the center line and colliding with a westbound Kia sedan.
The driver of the Kia, also 19 years old, was pronounced dead at the scene. Two 13-year-old passengers from Lowell were treated, with one flown to a Chicago hospital.
The cause of the crash is under investigation.
