LOWELL – A driver and passenger of a 2021 Chevrolet Camaro were killed Sunday morning after their car hit two vehicles and a sound barrier, erupting into flames.

According to Lake County Sheriff’s Police, it happened just before 1 a.m. when they were dispatched to the multi-vehicle crash on I-80/94 eastbound.

An investigation showed a blue 2021 Chevrolet Camaro was headed eastbound at the time of the crash before rear ending a silver 2011 Honda Pilot.  The wreck sent the Pilot into a median wall while the Camero reportedly continued on in the roadway before again hitting another vehicle, a red 2000 Ford Mustang.  The second impact sent the Camaro into an outer sound barrier where it burst into flames.

Identification of the driver and passenger who died in the crash is pending notification of family.

Neither driver of the other two cars involved in the crash showed signs of injuries but the driver of the Ford, Scott Kennedy, 43, of Crown Point, refused to submit to a impairment test and was taken to Lake County Jail.  Charges against Kennedy are pending results of a blood test.
