HOBART, Ind. — A pregnant woman who drowned in a lake in Hobart on Sunday afternoon has been identified by authorities. The Lake County coroner’s office confirmed that the victim was Ladakh Farley, a 30-year-old woman who was seven and a half months pregnant with a boy.
The incident unfolded when the Indiana Department of Natural Resources (DR) received a report of two swimmers struggling in the water near the beach area of Robinson Lake. Emergency personnel promptly responded to the distress call at approximately 12:52 PM.
A brave witness managed to rescue a male swimmer, but Farley, the pregnant woman, disappeared beneath the water’s surface and did not resurface.
Authorities launched a coordinated search and rescue operation, with divers from the DR Law Enforcement, Merrillville Fire Department, and Lake County Sheriff’s Department joining forces. They tirelessly scoured the lake in an attempt to locate Farley.
After an intense search effort, divers located and recovered Farley’s lifeless body at 3:03 PM. She was pronounced dead at the scene.
While the investigation is still ongoing, the Indiana DR is actively working to uncover the circumstances that led to this tragic drowning. Authorities are determined to understand what factors contributed to the incident and whether any additional safety measures could have prevented this heartbreaking outcome.
Multiple agencies, including the Hobart Police Department, Hobart Fire Department, Crown Point Fire Department, Cedar Lake Fire Department, Lake Hills Fire Department, Lake Station Fire Department, Superior Ambulance, and Lake County Coroner’s Office, collaborated tirelessly during the search and recovery operation.
