Highland, Indiana – A perplexing incident unfolded Tuesday afternoon raising concerns and questions within the community.

According to reports it happened Tuesday, afternoon around 2:18 pm when an unsettling encounter occurred at the Mobil gas station situated at the intersection of Kennedy and Main.

Reports say a woman described how, as she was about to refuel her vehicle, a teenage female of Indian descent approached her, requesting money. Language barriers hindered communication, but the situation escalated when the teen urgently mentioned her brother’s epilepsy, gesturing toward a parked, weathered silver minivan. This minivan, bearing out-of-state plates, potentially from Virginia or Pennsylvania, only deepened the mystery.

Wary of the situation, the reporting female hesitated. Just then, an adult female exited the gas station and headed towards the enigmatic minivan, taking the passenger seat. Concerned for her safety, the reporting female called out to her own vehicle’s passenger. In response, the teen swiftly retreated to the minivan, joining the adult female inside.

Moments later, a male emerged from the gas station, taking the driver’s seat of the enigmatic minivan. Within minutes, the van departed the gas station’s parking lot, proceeding westbound on Main Street.

The Highland Police Department has launched an active investigation into this enigmatic incident. They urge anyone who witnessed the events or possesses information to come forward. Detective Sergeant Lee Natelborg is available at 219.838.3184 to provide crucial information or assistance concerning this case.
