CROWN POINT, IN — An Illinois parolee was reportedly apprehended in Indiana after allegedly robbing an individual who was described as a casino winner, taking away his earnings, Social Security card, and other belongings.

Demonte Kentrell Vance-Williams, 28, now faces multiple charges in connection with the incident, according to Crown Point Police.

According to the authorities, the victim, a resident of Crown Point, purportedly returned home to Charles Court in the early hours of May 22. Reports say Vance-Williams arrived arriving in a small car and approached the victim while brandishing a handgun, demanding the winnings. The victim complied surrendering his wallet containing approximately $1,000 in cash, four credit cards, and his Social Security card. Then, in a state of panic, the victim ran inside his home instructing his daughters to contact the police, while Vance-Williams allegedly fled in an unknown direction.

An investigation conducted by the Crown Point Police Detective Bureau reportedly revealed that Vance-Williams and another individual were closely monitoring the alleged activities of the victim. They reportedly communicated via cell phones and allegedly appeared to be following the victim for nearly a hour prior to the incident, coinciding with the alleged time when the victim allegedly cashed out $3,200 in chips from the casino.

Surveillance footage allegedly showed Vance-Williams and the alleged accomplice allegedly entering a 2012 gray Toyota Camry registered in Illinois. The duo reportedly trailed the victim to his residence, with video footage allegedly capturing the suspect’s vehicle turning onto Charles Court moments after the victim.

Disturbingly, screams were allegedly heard on the video at approximately 2:42 a.m., shortly before the alleged Toyota Camry allegedly sped away from the alleged scene without its alleged lights on.

Vance-Williams, who has prior felony convictions and is on parole in Illinois, now faces charges including robbery, unlawful possession of a firearm by a serious violent felon, pointing a firearm, and intimidation, according to Crown Point Police.

Charges against a second individual are pending with the Lake County Prosecutor’s Office, awaiting further action.
