An unexpectedly cooler and brisk Friday awaited the Chicago Bears as the team worked on short-yardage goal-line drills. While the team worked in Pads during Friday’s training camp on the campus of Olivet, Matt Nagy told reporters not to expect that during Saturday’s Family Fest at Soldier Field.

While Bears fans are still on edge over last year’s double-doink off the goal post, kicker Elliott Fry gives a reason for optimism this coming season. During Saturday’s practice, Fry hit 90 percent of his kicks going 10/11 on the day. While Fry is battling for a spot against kicker Eddy Pineiro, who was absent due to personal reasons. Nagy discussed it after with reporters.

Elsewhere on the field, rookie offensive lineman Alex Bars was assisted off due to a knee contusion but is expected to be okay. Highlights on the day included running back David Montgomery hitting a pocket on a goal-line drill and punching the end zone, while third-year wide receiver Marvin Hall continued to look good on a short yard TD grab.

Saturday takes the Chicago Bears back home to Soldier Field where camp will begin at 7 p.m.
