Party Gone Wrong: Illinois Woman Shot in Head Amidst Underage Drinking Allegations

MORRIS, Ill. – A woman was found shot in the head during an incident that unfolded following a report of an alleged underage drinking party. 

According to Grundy County Sheriff’s Police, it happened at approximately 9:25 p.m. at a home in the 5590 block of 5527 Sand Ridge Road in Morris.   When officers arrived on the scene they encounter a homeowner who reported he was hosting a graduation party for his son and daughter, which had unexpectedly attracted a larger crowd.

Deputies left the scene satisfied no underage individuals remained where there but returned just before 10 p.m. when a sergeant returned to the home to ensure that no underage partygoers were left behind. As the sergeant approached the residence, he noticed a white Lexus parked in front of the house, surrounded by a group of people. To his horror, he discovered that the female driver had sustained a gunshot wound to the head.

The Officer immediately called for an ambulance with the victim transported to Morris Hospital for further treatment. The Will Grundy Major Crimes Task Force was activated and swiftly dispatched to the scene. 

Following an investigation into the incident, police arrested a resident of the home, Maxwell D. Williams, 18, on charges of Aggravated Battery with a Firearm.  During the investigation a .380 caliber Smith & Wesson M&P handgun was recovered at the scene.

Williams is now in custody at the Grundy County Jail, where he will await a bond hearing. No further details on the victim’s current condition have been provided.
