MANTENO, Ill. – Responding to a call of a suspicious man entering the sewers near Legacy Park, Manteno police officers were prepared for the unexpected.

Thoughts of clowns and red balloons crossed their minds, but what they discovered was a heartwarming rescue mission.

Brian and Leeya Kruizenga, a father-daughter duo, had sprung into action to save a group of ducklings that had fallen through the sewer grates while following their mother. With determination and skill, the pair successfully retrieved a total of eight ducklings, easing the worries of the distressed mother duck.

The Manteno Police Department praised the heroic efforts of Leeya and Brian, who went above and beyond to ensure the safety and reunion of the duck family. Their selfless act has garnered admiration from the community and serves as a reminder of the everyday heroes among us.

“You just never know what a call for service will end up actually being” the Manteno Police Department said in a social media post Saturday evening. “Awesome work, Leeya and Brian!”

The rescued ducklings were promptly returned to their relieved mother, marking a successful end to a potentially distressing situation.
