Long-time restaurant owner Ted Giannakopoulos has passed away.
Giannakopoulos died at his home in Bourbonnais at the age of 74 on Monday.
Throughout this life, Giannakopoulos was a dedicated restaurateur as the owner of Eppels in Chicago, River Oaks in Kankakee, River Oaks Banquets, Greenbriar and then later, Brickstone in Bourbonnais.
Brickstone Brewery & Restaurant opened in June 2006 in Bourbonnais and later opened a production facility in town.
Born in Greece in 1945, Giannakopoulos later made his way to Chicago where he married his wife, Helen Bratsos in 1971. He enjoyed traveling, spending summers in Greece, and spending Fall and Spring in Arizona. He enjoyed interacting with his customers and the community, and spending time with family and friends. Ted was a member of Annunciation Greek Orthodox Church in Kankakee.
He leaves behind a his wife, Helen Giannakopoulos of Bourbonnais; three sons and one daughter-in-law, Dino & Jodette Giannakopoulos of Bourbonnais, Nick Giannakopoulos of Bourbonnais, George Giannakopoulos of Bourbonnais; four grandchildren, Teddy, Alex, Drew, and Andrew Giannakopoulas; two sisters and two brothers-in-law, Doris & John Siakotos of Orland Park and Penny & Steve Gardiakos of Park Ridge; two sisters-in-law, Betty Vasilakis of Bourbonnais and her children, Tammy and Tina, and Toula Giannakopoulos of Orland Park. Ted is also survived by his nephews, Dino Gardiakos, George Gardiakos, Dino Giannakopoulos, Nick Giannakopoulos, Pete Siakotos, and Anthoula Lenze.
He is preceded in death by his parents; and one brother, John Giannakopoulos.
Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, all funeral services will be private.
Interment will be held at All Saints Cemetery in Bourbonnais.
