Little Rock, Ark. – Blistering heat grips central Arkansas today, pushing heat index values near 109 degrees and prompting warnings for anyone traveling along I-30 or I-40. Afternoon outdoor activities carry serious health risks, and residents are urged to limit exposure, stay hydrated, and check on vulnerable neighbors.

According to the National Weather Service in Little Rock, a Heat Advisory remains in effect until 8 p.m. tonight for much of central, eastern, and southern Arkansas. The advisory covers cities including Little Rock, Benton, Pine Bluff, Hot Springs, and Conway. Light southerly winds will do little to ease conditions, with “feels-like” readings peaking during the mid-to-late afternoon.

Saturday will remain hot, with highs in the mid-90s and heat indices again surpassing 100. A 30 percent chance of afternoon thunderstorms could provide brief relief, though humidity will remain high. Drivers should be alert for slick roads where storms develop, especially along major corridors.

By Sunday, temperatures will push toward 98 degrees, with another chance of scattered afternoon storms. Monday brings similar heat, with only a slight cool-down expected by midweek as clouds and showers increase.

Residents should drink plenty of fluids, stay in air-conditioned spaces, avoid strenuous outdoor work during peak heat, and monitor local alerts for any extended advisories.
