Lexington County, SC – A Columbia man has been sentenced to life in prison without the possibility of parole after a jury convicted him in the 2023 killing of an innocent bystander during what prosecutors described as an attempted armed robbery.
According to the 11th Circuit Solicitor’s Office, Tyrese “Rese” Glascho, 27, was convicted of murder, attempted murder, armed robbery, criminal conspiracy, and possession of a weapon during the commission of a violent crime. Judge Walton J. McLeod IV imposed a life sentence on the murder conviction, along with concurrent sentences on the remaining charges.
Prosecutors said the case stemmed from the June 7, 2023, shooting death of Emily Renee Zeigler, 55, in the 600 block of Pine Grove Road in Lexington County. Authorities said Glascho and a co-defendant allegedly opened fire on a man sitting inside a parked Lexus during an attempted robbery around 2 a.m.
According to investigators, Zeigler, who lived nearby, opened her front door after hearing the disturbance and was struck in the chest by a single gunshot. She later died from her injuries. Prosecutors said she had no connection to the robbery and was an innocent bystander.
The intended robbery victim suffered multiple gunshot wounds but survived. Investigators said he identified the shooter as “Rese” while receiving medical treatment.
According to the Solicitor’s Office, detectives with the Lexington County Sheriff’s Department linked Glascho to the crime through physical evidence, including a palm print found at the scene, as well as social media communications and cellphone records. Crime scene investigators recovered at least 11 spent shell casings, including both .40-caliber and 9mm casings.
Following the guilty verdict, Glascho was transferred to the South Carolina Department of Corrections to begin serving his sentence immediately.
