Lemont, IL – Excessive Heat Prompts Opening of Cooling Centers

Lemont, IL – The National Weather Service has issued an Excessive Heat Risk in Lemont through Saturday, June 22, with peak afternoon heat indices reaching 95 to 100 degrees. Cooling centers have been opened to provide relief for residents during this period of extreme heat.

According to the Lemont Emergency Management Agency, the following facilities will serve as cooling centers: the Lemont Park District CORE Building, Lemont Public Library, Lemont Township Office, and Village Hall. Each location will be open during their regular business hours. Residents in need of assistance outside of these hours are advised to call the Lemont Police Department’s non-emergency number at 630-257-2226. For emergencies, dialing 911 is recommended.

Residents are encouraged to check on relatives and neighbors, especially the elderly, to ensure they have access to air-conditioned spaces. Additionally, the National Weather Service advises staying indoors, drinking plenty of water, and avoiding strenuous activities.
