Hastings, NE – Residents along the Nebraska and Kansas border should brace for severe weather late tonight as thunderstorms are expected to bring damaging winds and large hail. The National Weather Service in Hastings has issued a warning that the main threat window is between 11 p.m. and 4 a.m. Wednesday.

According to the latest forecast, the most severe storms are likely to develop near and north of the Kansas-Nebraska state line. The primary concerns include hail potentially reaching the size of golf balls, along with wind gusts between 60-80 mph. These conditions could cause significant damage to properties, especially those with vulnerable roofing or outdoor equipment.

There is also a low but not negligible risk of isolated tornadoes, primarily in areas under the highest threat level. Residents are advised to secure loose items outdoors and ensure that they have multiple ways to receive weather alerts overnight.

The threat doesn’t end there. The region is under another severe weather watch for Wednesday, with the risk zone shifting slightly eastward but still encompassing parts of Nebraska and Kansas. The NWS will continue to monitor the situation closely, providing updates as necessary.

Stay tuned to local weather reports and have a plan in place for potential severe weather tonight and into Wednesday.
