Susanville, CA – A Fire Weather Watch has been issued by the National Weather Service in Reno for Northeast California, including Surprise Valley and Eastern Lassen County. The alert is effective Thursday afternoon through Thursday evening due to anticipated gusty winds and low humidity.

According to the weather service, winds are expected to blow from the southwest at 15 to 20 mph, with gusts up to 40 mph in certain areas. Humidity will range between 11% and 18%, creating conditions where fires can rapidly escalate. The affected zones include parts of Northern Washoe County in Nevada.

Residents are urged to avoid any activities that could spark a fire, such as using power tools outdoors or lighting campfires. The combination of high winds and dry conditions can lead to rapidly spreading fires that could quickly become uncontrollable before firefighters can intervene.
