LAS VEGAS — Some Las Vegas residents may be receiving jury duty notices earlier than expected as courts adjust scheduling practices, manage growing jury pools, and warn the public about increasingly sophisticated scams.

Automated scheduling systems, improved postcard summons, and updated portals have allowed courts to issue notices earlier, especially in demand for higher trial volumes. These changes have streamlined jury administration.

To address case backlogs, the Las Vegas Justice Court is also implementing a dedicated Traffic Calendar to manage criminal traffic matters.

According to a press release from the State Bar of Nevada, “This approach enhances the court’s ability to allocate judicial and clerical resources effectively, reduces congestion on general criminal calendars, and allows those departments to focus on more complex cases.”

Residents are advised to use the court portal to verify jury duty dates and request deferrals if needed for early notices. Clark County officials warn residents to be on the lookout for jury duty scams, which involve people receiving citations claiming they failed to appear for jury duty and owe a fee.
