Las Vegas, Nev. – Blue skies dominate the Las Vegas Valley this morning, but the desert heat is already tightening its grip. Triple-digit temperatures will build through the next several days, while isolated monsoon thunderstorms could return and quickly change conditions during the afternoons and evenings.
Southern Nevada is entering another prolonged stretch of intense summer heat, with highs climbing from 102 degrees today to 105 degrees by Tuesday. While sunshine will be the dominant weather story, isolated thunderstorms remain possible as monsoon moisture slowly works back into the region.
According to the National Weather Service in Las Vegas, today’s weather will be sunny with a high near 102 degrees. Temperatures rise to 104 degrees Sunday, 103 degrees Monday, and peak near 105 degrees Tuesday. Slight chances for showers and thunderstorms begin Sunday and continue through much of the workweek.
The heat will create the greatest impact across the Las Vegas Valley. Pavement temperatures will climb well above air temperatures during the afternoon, increasing the risk of heat-related illness for anyone spending extended time outdoors. Drink water frequently, wear light clothing, and avoid strenuous activity during the hottest hours of the day.
Drivers on Interstate 15, U.S. 95, Interstate 515, and the Las Vegas Beltway should also stay alert. Any isolated thunderstorm could produce sudden gusty winds, blowing dust, and brief reductions in visibility. While widespread rainfall is not expected, localized downpours could create slick roads and ponding in poor drainage areas. Tornado potential remains extremely low, but lightning is a concern with any storm that develops.
Meteorologists continue tracking a gradual increase in monsoon moisture through Tuesday and beyond. The daily storm chances remain relatively low, yet they are enough to produce localized impacts where storms form.
Long-range outlooks continue to support above-normal temperatures across the Southwest during the 6-to-10-day period, meaning summer heat is expected to remain firmly in place even as isolated monsoon activity continues.
