Las Vegas, Nevada – Drivers along I-15 in southern Nevada should prepare for gusty winds, lightning, and wet roads this afternoon as isolated to scattered thunderstorms develop north and west of the corridor.

According to the National Weather Service in Las Vegas, light to moderate rain is expected through 8 p.m. Thursday across areas including Tonopah, Goldfield, Pahrump, and Indian Springs. The rain may reduce visibility and create slick conditions on roads that haven’t seen recent moisture. Outflow winds could reach 30–40 mph, increasing the risk of sudden dust and debris, especially in rural and desert areas.

Communities near highways 93 and 95, including Beatty and Rachel, may also experience brief downpours and lightning. While rain totals are expected to remain modest, the combination of wind and lightning could pose travel and power risks. The threat is particularly acute in areas with dry soil and low drainage, where runoff may pool quickly.

Residents are urged to avoid unnecessary travel during active storms, secure outdoor items, and stay indoors when thunder roars. NWS Las Vegas notes this pattern is typical of early May monsoonal shifts but reminds residents that lightning can strike well beyond storm centers.

Storm chances continue into the evening, and more updates are expected if additional cells develop.
