Eugene, OR – Deputies with the Lane County Sheriff’s Office were searching for a suspect Monday after two separate traffic stops in Eugene ended with drivers fleeing on foot during the same shift.

According to the Lane County Sheriff’s Office, the first incident occurred around 10:46 a.m. Monday near River Road and Greenleaf Avenue. A deputy initiated a traffic stop, but the driver stopped briefly before fleeing on foot through nearby backyards, allegedly damaging residential property in the process.

Deputies and Eugene Police officers established a perimeter and conducted a search but were initially unable to locate the suspect. The driver was later identified as Shane Lyle Clarke, 28, of Eugene, according to authorities.

Officials said Clarke has an active arrest warrant issued by the Oregon State Parole Board for assaulting a public safety officer. Despite being identified, he was not immediately located following the morning incident.

Later the same day, around 1:30 p.m., deputies responded to another traffic stop on Hatton Avenue in Eugene where a different driver also fled on foot. A perimeter was set up, and that driver was later arrested, according to the sheriff’s office.

As a precaution, deputies said they remained in contact with residents in the affected neighborhoods during both incidents.

Clarke is described as a white male adult, approximately 5 feet 11 inches tall, weighing 160 pounds, with brown hair and blue eyes. Authorities say he has a distinctive “1998” tattoo above his left eyebrow.

Anyone with information on Clarke’s whereabouts is urged to contact Lane County Dispatch at 541-682-4150, option 1, and reference case number 26-0175.
