Duluth, MN – A Severe Thunderstorm Watch has been issued for the Lake Superior region, including parts of Minnesota, Wisconsin, and northwest Iowa. The watch remains in effect until 9:00 p.m. Thursday as severe storms are expected to sweep through the area.

The National Weather Service (NWS) warns that the storms could bring damaging wind gusts up to 70 mph, large hail up to 2 inches in diameter, and possibly a tornado near a warm front.

Residents in the affected areas should take precautions, such as staying indoors and avoiding unnecessary travel. Monitor weather updates and be prepared to take shelter if severe weather develops. The NWS stresses that a Severe Thunderstorm Watch indicates favorable conditions for severe weather, which can escalate rapidly.

Aviation operations may also be disrupted, with extreme turbulence and strong wind gusts posing risks. The NWS will continue to provide updates as the situation evolves.
