Miami, Fla. – South Florida residents should brace for another stormy afternoon as widespread showers and thunderstorms develop across the region Friday, with the heaviest activity expected after 2 p.m.
According to the National Weather Service in Miami, the strongest storms will likely hit the east coast metro areas from West Palm Beach through Fort Lauderdale and Miami, bringing heavy downpours, gusty winds, and the potential for localized flooding. The Lake Okeechobee region also faces elevated storm risks through the evening.
Rain chances peak at 81% in Fort Lauderdale, 80% in Miami, and 75% in West Palm Beach, while inland cities such as Clewiston (70%) and Palmdale (65%) are also likely to see thunderstorms. Naples remains lower but still faces a 52% chance of rain. Drivers are urged to use caution during the afternoon commute, as sudden downpours could lead to water-covered roads and reduced visibility.
Officials advise avoiding outdoor activities during thunderstorms and securing loose outdoor items ahead of gusty winds. More storms are likely to develop over the weekend, keeping conditions unsettled into early next week.
