Green Bay, WI – High waves and dangerous currents are expected to create hazardous conditions along the Lake Michigan shoreline today, prompting the National Weather Service to issue a Beach Hazards Statement and Small Craft Advisory.

According to the National Weather Service, waves of 4 to 7 feet, combined with strong currents, will make swimming conditions dangerous along Lake Michigan beaches from 7 AM to 7 PM Tuesday. The advisory extends from the bay to the lake, cautioning against water activities due to the heightened risk.

In addition to the Beach Hazards Statement, a Small Craft Advisory has been issued for Lake Michigan, effective from 7 AM Tuesday to 7 AM Wednesday. Winds from the south are anticipated to reach 15 to 25 knots, with gusts up to 30 knots, contributing to wave heights of 4 to 7 feet on the lake and 2 to 4 feet in the bay.

Beachgoers are advised to stay out of the water and heed posted warnings to avoid life-threatening situations. Small craft operators should exercise extreme caution or avoid venturing out altogether due to the rough conditions.

These hazardous conditions are expected to persist through Wednesday morning, after which waves and wind speeds are forecast to decrease. Residents and visitors are encouraged to stay informed through local weather updates and take necessary precautions to ensure safety.
