Buffalo, NY – Northern and Southern New York counties are bracing for heavy lake-effect snow as a prolonged storm begins Wednesday. Areas could see up to three feet of accumulation by Sunday evening.

The National Weather Service issued a Lake Effect Snow Warning, effective Wednesday afternoon through Sunday at 6 p.m. Winds gusting up to 40 mph are expected to cause blowing and drifting snow, creating hazardous travel conditions, especially on secondary roads. Impacted areas include Oswego, Jefferson, and Erie counties, with conditions likely disrupting Thursday’s morning commute.

According to the National Weather Service, snow will fall in narrow bands, causing rapidly changing visibility and road conditions. Travelers should exercise caution and stay updated on local advisories. Residents are encouraged to submit snow reports via social media or the NWS website.

Stock up on essentials, avoid non-essential travel, and monitor weather updates for the latest developments.

Stay safe by checking road conditions before venturing out.
