Buffalo, New York – Light lake-effect snow is expected to continue northeast of both Lake Erie and Lake Ontario today and tonight, with more organized and heavier snow developing late tonight into Monday morning, according to the National Weather Service in Buffalo.
Forecasters say initial snowfall will remain light through much of the day, primarily affecting areas northeast of the lakes. As colder air deepens overnight, lake-effect snow bands are expected to become better organized, allowing snowfall rates to increase heading into Monday morning.
The snowfall forecast through early Monday shows accumulations of 1 to 3 inches possible across portions of western and north-central New York, including areas east of Lake Erie and Lake Ontario. Localized higher totals may occur where persistent lake-effect bands develop.
Snowfall is expected to impact travel conditions, particularly overnight and during the Monday morning commute, as visibility may be reduced in heavier snow bands. Road conditions may become slick where snow accumulates.
The National Weather Service advises residents and travelers in affected areas to monitor forecast updates as lake-effect snow band placement can shift over short distances.
