Grand Rapids, MI – A Winter Weather Advisory has been issued for parts of West Michigan, including Barry, Kalamazoo, Kent, Lake, and Newaygo counties. The advisory begins at 4 p.m. Sunday and continues through 7 p.m. Tuesday.
The National Weather Service reports that lake-effect snow combined with blowing and drifting conditions could result in accumulations of 3 to 5 inches. Wind chills are expected to plummet to between -15°F and -25°F from Monday morning through Wednesday.
Travelers should prepare for rapidly changing road conditions and reduced visibility during snow bands, particularly during the Monday morning and evening commutes.
According to the advisory, the most intense conditions will occur near the lakeshore, where snow and wind gusts may create hazardous driving conditions. Residents are urged to slow down and exercise caution when traveling.
Officials recommend dressing in layers and limiting outdoor exposure during periods of extreme cold. Frostbite can occur on exposed skin in as little as 30 minutes in these conditions.
Stay updated on road conditions and consider delaying non-essential travel. For immediate weather updates, visit the National Weather Service or local emergency management websites.
