Grand Rapids, MI – A Winter Weather Advisory is in effect across portions of southwest and west-central Michigan, with hazardous conditions expected to last through 1 a.m. Wednesday.
The National Weather Service reports lake effect snow will bring an additional 6 to 10 inches of accumulation, with localized higher amounts possible. Areas affected include Mason, Oceana, Muskegon, Ottawa, Allegan, and Van Buren counties, impacting cities such as Ludington, Holland, and Muskegon.
According to the advisory, wind chills are forecast to plummet into the -10°F to -20°F range Monday through Wednesday. Visibility may drop quickly in heavy snow bands, creating dangerous travel conditions. Monday’s morning and evening commutes are likely to be particularly challenging.
Drivers are urged to slow down and use caution on roads, as conditions can change rapidly over short distances. The combination of blowing snow and frigid wind chills increases the risk of frostbite for those outdoors without proper protection.
Residents should prepare for delays, allow extra time for travel, and monitor local forecasts for updates.
