Grayslake, IL – A traffic stop turned into a chaotic confrontation early Friday morning, leading to the arrest of two individuals in Grayslake.
According to the Lake County Sheriff’s Office, a deputy observed a vehicle driving without headlights around 2:00 a.m. near Washington Street and Lancer Lane. When the deputy attempted a traffic stop, the driver, later identified as Swayne Carranza, 38, of Round Lake Beach, accelerated to 80 mph in a 45-mph zone. He eventually stopped in a driveway in the 1100 block of Cambridge Drive, where deputies attempted to take him into custody.
Carranza allegedly exited the vehicle aggressively and refused commands before resisting arrest. A deputy deployed a Taser to subdue him. Meanwhile, his passenger, Maria Lara, 32, allegedly interfered, kicking a deputy before being arrested.
Lara faces multiple charges, including aggravated battery to a peace officer and resisting arrest. Carranza is charged with resisting arrest, obstructing a peace officer, and aggravated speeding.
Carranza was released on pre-trial release, while Lara remains in custody.
