Lake County Mystery: Local Man Dies, Found Unresponsive in Pond

Cedar Lake, IN – Authorities are investigating a troubling incident after a man was discovered unresponsive in a pond on the 11500 block of W 134th Ct on Saturday evening.

Police responded to the scene around 7 p.m. following reports of a man , identified as Allen Griffith, 66, was motionless in the water. Officers arrived to find Griffith unresponsive and partially submerged. Despite immediate resuscitation attempts, it was evident he had been in the water for a significant period and could not be revived.

Deputy Chief Investigator Carl Brittingham of the Cedar Lake Police Department stated that Griffith was a familiar figure in the community, known to frequent the pond area. While his presence there was not unusual, the circumstances of his death raise questions, however it is believed to be accidental.

The Lake County Coroner’s office is conducting a thorough investigation, including an autopsy to determine the cause of death.
